Hi…does anyone know if there is any published documents online that outline infection rates on today’s osseointegration legs? That’s all my doctors here in Canada seem to be concerned about. I need their help on co-ordinating medical stuff so am trying to get them on-board. Any statistic I can get my hands on would hellp….thanks in advance.

Dr Al Muderis has a statistic for infection rates and I know he would be happy to discuss. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember being told that you need to go on antibiotics approximately twice a year, but this includes preventative action. You would need to check with Dr Al Muderis. But I think many of the osseo patients would have been on antibiotics at some stage?

When I first left hospital my doctor and I were probably over cautious about infection and I went on antibiotics a couple of times because I had a lot redness around the stoma but now looking back it was just bruising. Dr Al Muderis is on the line as soon as you mention any posibility of infection and he sorts it out pretty quickly over the phone. I also regularily text him pictures of swelling, soreness etc just to make sure that things are progressing the way they should. With iphones etc you can instantly text pictures of any trouble you are having. I am ranting a bit! Hope this has helped. I am so thrilled with this surgery. I am now off my crutches and walking with a stick for most of the day. Its brilliant!

    Cheers, Ali

Just an update…since February I think I have been on antibiotics 3 or 4 times.

    Infections.

after several visits a local GP, with complaints of pain around the abutment, redness, mass amounts of ooze and a stinging sensation, having been told this all part of the healing process. have since seen another GP and now having periodic swabs taken.

I have been told 3 weeks ago now, I have Staph infection, which was given an antibiotic for 2 weeks, and a follow up swab, where Psuedamonis was found . put on extremely heavy antibiotics for a month, after 3 days the oozing dried up more the 60%. redness has now gone and near pain free.

new swab just yesterday, awaiting results but told i could be on and off these antibiotics for up 12 months.

hope to be in Sydney next week, for further tweaks in Stefan at APC, and have a back up shower leg put together.
